Analysing Saul Bass' title sequences

Previously, I analysed some of Saul Bass' title sequences and I particularly found the following sequences quite intriguing: 'Alien' (I am a fan of the Alien and Predator films - one of the reasons I decided to watch the title sequence for it - according to IMDB, he was 'uncredited'), 'Pycho', 'Oceans Eleven',  quite interesting.

Psycho - http://www.artofthetitle.com/title/psycho/

The title sequence for Psycho interested me in the way he used lines to cut up the background and create effects for the text where the lines overlapped the text on some parts of the title. The way that the text began to move on the sequence when the lines went through them, I particularly liked the way it brought the effect for the sequence. I liked the way where Bass used the lines which he included in his sequence to create sound waves - the lines which move up and down to present the amplitude on old stereos (musical products). In addition to the sound; the orchestral music which plays throughout the title sequence was always fast paced which creates a sense of constant danger and travel - to escape and unveil mystery. The music which plays intensifies the moment and  makes the sequence seem quite eerie in a way.

Alien - http://www.artofthetitle.com /title/alien/

For this particular title sequence it is quite generic; the sequence does not consist of a variety of features. however, the music which plays throughout of the title sequence builds suspense and traverses swiftly but accelerates and it also plays quite quietly. Referring back to 'Psycho' where he uses lines in that particular sequence; similar work is displayed in the 'Alien' sequence.cover time lines appear which slowly assemble and bind together to make up the film title.

Oceans Eleven - http://www.artofthetitle.com/title/oceans-eleven/

With this title sequence, I liked the way that the numbers displayed on the first part of the sequence continued to increase until it reached the number eleven - I liked the way where in this title sequence is displays some meaning for the film title; where the number eleven appears, it informs the audience that there are eleven main characters. There are eleven characters in the film which plan for heists to steal from casinos in Las Vegas. The character Danny's surname is Ocean and it represents itself with the film title. I found the way that Bass used specific elements from the film which he placed into his title sequence. With this specific sequence the text is displayed in a way where the appear as lights; the film itself is set in Las Vegas and the majority of structures are lit up in various colours. It looks like he is using the text to signify the location of where the film is set.

I have analysed parts of three different title sequences made by Saul Bass and I liked the original concepts/features which he used. for instance, quite a of of his work is hand drawn and I particularly liked the way that he used lines to create an effect for his backgrounds and text. The images which Bass uses usually exemplifies or brings meaning of specific qualities or characteristics which correlates with films.
I found some of Saul Bass' work interesting when I watched some of his sequences.

The styles which Saul Bass uses is quite unique as he draws his own images and his work can be quite conspicuous as it always is always exemplified through his use of images, text and effects within the sequences.
